ABOUT
ME
I
started Able Hands Handyman Services in May of 2004. If
that was the beginning, middle,
and end of the story I wouldn’t hire me either. My
journey into “the trades” started in 1985
at age 14. What can a 14 year old do?
Like most boys of that age I found that I had a
certain
skill for destroying things. I went to work for a
contractor friend doing a remodel. My first task
was to tear the walls out of a burned out house. Man
that was fun. To this day, deconstruction
is my favorite part of construction.
Over
the years from then
to now I’ve held more jobs than I can count. I’ve
worked more food
service jobs than you can shake a stick at. I’ve
worked for at least a dozen construction
companies, as a bank teller twice, for two commercial HVAC companies,
for one of the
largest computer companies in the world as an engineering technician,
and for the last few
years I’ve worked for me. I’m the best boss I have
ever had! I may not always get it right,
but I treat me pretty well. I know it sounds cliche, but what I
learned from all of those jobs is that
honesty is the most important thing
I
have two rules:
1. – If I don’t know
how to do something you ask of me, you will be the
first to know
(well maybe second to know is
more accurate).
I will offer
to find out how to do it, and if I’m comfortable with the concept
I will still
take on the job. If I am uncomfortable, I will not
take it on.
2. – Be honest with
the customer, and more importantly be honest with
myself.
